After a frustrating defeat against India, Pakistan will reportedly undergo a change in the support staff as they might sack the team's head coach, Aqib Javed. The reports came after Pakistan's exit was not final, but with New Zealand walking into the semifinals alongside India, Pakistan may carry on with their age-old tradition of sacking coaches. According to a source from the Pakistan Cricket Board, there is no official announcement, but the outrage after the defeat against India, especially, might cost Javed's position. The source told PTI, "Obviously there is backlash over the team's performance in the CT. The Board hasn't decided as yet on whether the team will have separate head coaches (for red and white ball teams) but one thing is certain the current support staff will be overhauled now after the poor show in the Champions Trophy." However, the selection committee hardly showed any signs of doing some changes with the team, even when players failed massively in big matches. Aqib Javed, who was appointed by PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi as the interim head coach in the white ball team last year, seems to literally undergo termination, which his ancestors didn't. However, that will create more tensions as the rapid shifting of coaches has made the team run short of options. The source added, "The way the Board has been changing coaches and selectors since last year, it will be a challenge to find other candidates for these positions. The PCB, after the way Kirsten and Gillispie resigned, is not going to get a choice of field when it comes to foreign coaches, so most probably the PCB will look at former players for the job." With Pakistan set to tour New Zealand from March 16 to April 5 for a series of five T20 Internationals and three ODIs, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is focused on appointing a permanent head coach or coaching staff before the tour begins.
