Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi reassured fans and critics on Friday that the country is fully prepared to host the upcoming Champions Trophy. The prestigious tournament is set to begin on February 19, and there have been questions surrounding the readiness of the venues in Lahore, Karachi, and Rawalpindi. Despite some ongoing construction work, Naqvi expressed confidence that the event will proceed as planned. He addressed rumors that the event could be moved out of Pakistan due to delays in preparations. Speaking about the newly renovated gaddafi Stadium, Naqvi said, "They were people from across the border and even others who kept on saying it looks like the Champions Trophy would be moved out of Pakistan as stadiums are not going to be ready on time. But I can announce today we are set to go for the tri-series and Champions Trophy.” Naqvi sounded confident that Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore will be ready by February 7, just in time for the event, while some work will continue at the National Stadium in Karachi and Rawalpindi Stadium after the tournament concludes. The PCB chief also shared that the budget for these renovations had surpassed the initial estimate of 12 billion Pakistani rupees, but he was confident the investments would pay off in the long run. The PCB has also invited high-ranking officials from cricket boards around the world, including India, to attend key events during the Champions Trophy. Naqvi added that the inauguration ceremony would take place in Lahore on February 16, and although some teams' schedules might not allow for certain events, the tournament is expected to be a significant international gathering.
