The PCB has announced the squad for the multi-format series to South Africa and they have made some notable changes to their Test squad. Pakistan will be touring South Africa in an important red and white ball series, starting from December 10 to January 7 where they are scheduled to play three ODI matches, the same number of T20I matches and two Test matches. The Pakistan team selection committee, led by interim white-ball head coach Aqib Javed, has opted for a balanced side, keeping the strength and preparation for the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy 2025. Babar was last seen during the Australia tour and he was not included in the Zimbabwe series but the selectors have shown their faith in him again and have included him in this crucial tour. Alongside him, Mohammad Rizwan will be captaining the white-ball squads. In the Test squad for the South Africa series, Pakistan has made major changes, they have dropped their key left-arm pacer Shaheen Shah Afridi from the squad but has been included in the white-ball squad. Mohammad Abbas has been called back for the Test series as well. Aqib Javed spoke about the decision to drop their key pacer, Shaheen Shah Afridi. He mentioned that Afridi was not included in the Test squad because of the upcoming ICC Champions Trophy, PCB wants their star bowler to remain fit for the upcoming major event. Javed in a statement said: “Shaheen Shah Afridi’s exclusion from the Test squad is a strategic decision to ensure he remains physically and mentally fresh for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
