Pakistan dominated South Africa at the end of Day 3 in the first Test at Gaddafi Stadium, Lahore. The visitors were 51/2 in their second innings at stumps, requiring another 226 runs to win. Ryan Rickelton was unbeaten on 29 and Tony de Zorzi was 16* not out. Pakistan's Noman Ali was the best bowler in the second innings, taking 2/20. South Africa started their first innings from 216/6, with Senuran Muthusamy and Tony de Zorzi at the wickets. The Proteas scored 269 all out in 84 overs. De Zorzi scored an excellent 104 from 171 balls, with 10 fours and two sixes. Noman Ali and Sajid Khan led the bowling attack for Pakistan, with Noman taking 6/112 and Sajid finishing with 3/98. Pakistan's first innings had been a solid one, scoring 378/10 off 110.4 overs. Shan Masood had scored 76, Imam-ul-Haq had scored 93, Mohammad Rizwan had contributed 75, and Salman Agha had made 93 runs. South Africa's Muthusamy was brilliant with the ball, picking up 6/117 in 32 overs. Babar Azam scored the highest with 42, Abdullah Shafique contributing 41, and Saud Shakeel contributing 38. Senuran Muthusamy and Simon Harmer picked up the bulk of the wickets for South Africa, with 5/57 and 4/51, respectively. During Day 3, 16 wickets were lost, which showed that the batters had to contend with the deteriorating nature of the surface. With the hosts ahead in the game and the Proteas requiring 226 more, the game is nicely balanced as they approach Day 4. Pakistan do have the advantage and a number of positives to take into account, but South Africa are not entirely out of it if they go all out.
