Pakistan cricket has indeed been in trouble for quite some time. It was successive poor outings in the ODI and T20 World Cups that created an uproar enough to change the leadership and the administrative setup. Things did not become any better when Shaan Masood-led Test team went on to lose two Test matches at home against Bangladesh one after the other, and then on the back of these two Test match defeats, the very same Test side went ahead and lost the 1st Test against England at Multan. The PCB issued a new selection committee in order to ensure proper selection at every level. It downsized the committee from seven to five members. Former pacer Aaqib Javed leads the committee comprising Aleem Dar, Azhar Ali, Asad Shafiq, and Hassan Cheema. The captain and head coach no longer enjoy voting rights in the process. Aaqib Javed recently met India's head coach Gautam Gambhir. In a podcast, Javed said Gambhir also expressed concern over Pakistan's struggles, saying it has taken the excitement out of India-Pakistan matches. Gautam Gambhir ne mujhe kaha ke ‘Aaqib bhai, yeh Pakistan cricket ko kya ho gaya hai? Itna talent hai, hum bhi dekhte hain, sab kuch hai, inhone kiya kya hai?’ (Gambhir asked me what has happened to Pakistan cricket despite so much talent and everything, what have they done?)." He added: “He (Gambhir) also feels sorry about it, because there are a few (top-level) teams, and the Pakistan-India matches provide the biggest thrill. So, if your team (Pakistan) falls like that then one of the game’s biggest matches loses its charm. ICC mei log haste hain (people in the ICC laugh about it)." Meanwhile, Pakistan is trying to level their 3-match Test series against England. The host team set a target of 297 for England and spinners Sajid Khan and Noman Ali easily reduced them to 65-4. On the fourth day of the match. England's Jamie Smith and Ben Stokes are currently batting, and the visitors requires over 200 runs to win the series.
