What apparently looked like "just an awkward" fall had some scary aftermaths that made the doctors rush to the hospital with injured Shreyas Iyer. The middle-order batter Shreyas Iyer was admitted to a hospital in Sydney after he sustained a lower rib injury and internal bleeding in his spleen while taking Alex Carey's catch on October 25. Shreyas Iyer was seen grimacing in pain while he walked out with the help of the physio. Reports earlier claimed that his vitals went down in the dressing room, and the doctors had to rush him to the hospital. However, a recent report from the Indian Express reported that Shreyas' oxygen level had dropped to 50%. This means his body was surviving with 10 to 11% of environmental Oxygen. A normal human has SpO₂ ranging from 95 to 100%. At 50%, the brain starves, and the person may lose consciousness. And as per the report, this is what that happened with Shreyas. The BCCI source informed Indian Express that Shreyas couldn't stand properly for 10 minutes and was completely blacked out. Normally, with such a Oxygen level drop, heart rates go abnormal, and the patient needs immediate life support to survive. Well, the ODI vice captain had recovered pretty quickly and was taking solid foods even in the hospital. Currently he has been discharged and has posted a beach photo with his friend, thanking his well-wishers. Shreyas Iyer has been a bit fragile since the last few years, and has been battling several injuries. Recently, he had suffering from a lingering back issue for which he took a six-month break from red ball cricket. One Day International is the only format he is currenty playing and the selectors are not willing to risk his physical health just to have him back on the field as soon as possible. As per the reports, Shreyas will take around a month to be match-fit. In such a scenario, he is unlikely to be available for the South Africa ODI series starting this November 30 in Ranchi. Whether he will be back for the New Zealand series coming next will depend on his rehabilitation and recovery progress.
