Delhi Capitals (DC), led by Faf du Plessis, were up against Punjab Kings (PBKS), captained by Shreyas Iyer, in IPL 2025, Match 66. In another scintillating contest, DC, who are now one of four teams, clinched a six-wicket victory over PBKS on Friday, May 23, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. After winning the toss and choosing to field, DC gave PBKS the chance to set a daunting target of 206/8. Mustafizur Rahman was the pick of the bowlers with 3/33, while Vipraj Nigam (2/38), Kuldeep Yadav (2/39), and Mukesh Kumar (1/49) contributed with the wickets. While chasing, Faf du Plessis (23), KL Rahul (35), Karun Nair (44), and Sediqullah Atal (22) all contributed. But it was Sameer Rizvi who created the headlines with a match-winning 58* that sealed the win with three balls to spare. After the game, Faf admitted that they had been aiming to finish in the top four, but that finishing fifth showed the season had not entirely been theirs. He said: "It is really important. We wanted to finish top four, but finishing in top five was a fair reflection on us." Faf said it was “one of the great mysteries” but applauded local boys like Vipraj Nigam for their efforts. Earlier in the season, DC had gone down to PBKS by four wickets in Mullanpur on March 23, 2024. Faf added: "It's one of the great mysteries, we tried to answer that question a few times in the dressing room. Confidence, lack of runs, when you are playing well, you get to win the small margins. Every game that small window of 5-6 overs in batting and bowling and in a big tournament like that it cost us" The DC innings started well, with David Warner putting on 29 off 21 deliveries and Mitchell Marsh with 20 off 12; however, the middle order collapsed with 25-ball 33 by Shai Hope and 18 from Rishabh Pant. However, Abishek Porel gave a whirlwind finish by smashing 32* off just 10 balls to take DC to 174/9. Kuldeep Yadav was excellent with the ball, taking 2/20 by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh and Jitesh Sharma. Khaleel Ahmed (2/43) and Ishant Sharma (1 wicket) also contributed to finishing targets. The 19.2 overs were completed by Curran (63 off 47) and Livingstone (38* off 21) to take PBKS home.
