Karun Nair made a strong debut in the IPL 2025 but has since been having a lean patch with the bat. On Tuesday, against the LSG, opening for Delhi Capitals, he could not capitalize on yet another start, being dismissed for just 15 in the chase of 159 runs. Nair had a magnificently successful domestic season, but he had to wait a while for his entry into the IPL. In his first match for DC, however, he did not disappoint. He scored a smashing 89 in just 40 balls, pulverizing Jasprit Bumrah all over the park. With Faf du Plessis injured and Jake Fraser-McGurk woefully out of form, it seemed like DC had finally found his new opener. What a reply from #AidenMarkram! 🔥Smashed for a six on the previous ball, but he comes back strong and cleans him up the very next delivery! Nair has tasted less glorious fortunes with the bat ever since that fiery innings. He did not score any runs against Rajasthan Royals and collected a meager 31 runs off 18 against Gujarat Titans. This Tuesday, he got off to a good start once again by striking two consecutive boundaries off Shardul Thakur in the opening over. A huge six was hit by him over long-on off Aiden Markram. But the part-time bowler answered back in no time by having Nair bowled with a delivery that drifted away from his bat and crashed into the stumps. With du Plessis nearing a return and Porel finding his form, Nair will have to quickly rediscover his domestic form. The consistency he has shown across formats was the reason for this IPL spot in DC's fold, and he will need to deliver for them if the side is to make it to the playoffs.
