Jitesh Sharma has made a bold claim about Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), stating that once their time comes, the franchise might win trophies for five years straight. Speaking exclusively to CricXtasy, Sharma expressed confidence in RCB's potential to dominate IPL seasons ahead. In the interview he said, "Once our time comes, RCB might win trophies for five years straight." RCB is one of the three franchises that have never won an IPL trophy, with Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Delhi Capitals (DC) being the other two. Despite their lack of silverware, RCB has always been a batting-heavy side, boasting some of the biggest names in cricket. Virat Kohli has been the face of the franchise, while legends like AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle once decorated the batting order. In recent times, Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell have carried the responsibility. Jitesh Sharma was RCB's ₹11 crore buy in the 2025 IPL mega auction to strengthen their wicketkeeping options. With fresh additions and Kohli back in form, RCB will eye their maiden IPL title in 2025. With Faf du Plessis released and no clear captaincy pick at the auction, speculation grew that Virat Kohli might take up the role once again. However, RCB stunned everyone by announcing Rajat Patidar as their new captain. Speaking on the CricXtasy podcast, Jitesh Sharma admitted that he wasn’t aware of the internal discussions but believed Kohli had already stepped away from leadership. He added that, Rajat Patidar seemed like the best option. He said, "I don't know why he did not want to captain. I am not in the management side of things; when I am, I will let you know. But he has not been captaining in the last 2-3 years, so it felt that he would not do it this year as well. So, I think Rajat was the best option." Interestingly, RCB kept Patidar’s appointment a secret, with Jitesh only learning about it through social media. "I got to know about Rajat Patidar becoming the captain when everyone else got to know. But when you have been around the game for a while, you understand the flow of things. Virat bhai did not want to captain the side." The franchise will kick off their campaign against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) on March 22 at Eden Gardens.
