It's been a while now where some of the greats of the cricket world has been bombarded with questions about retirement. Sachin Tendulkar faced it at the fag end of his career and it's no different with Virat Kohli now even though he is performing at the top level and showing no signs of stopping. The Royal Challengers Bengaluru star is undoubtedly one of the fittest cricketers in the world and continues to score runs consistently. However question of when he will be playing his last still pops up often from all over the world. Talking at an RCB event on this Kohli seemed very open about the subject and mentioned that though he does know that a day would come when he has to retire, he is certainly not thinking of that day. "As sportsmen we do have an end date to our careers. I'm just working backwards," Kohli explained. The remark instantly caught the eye of cricket fans, many of whom have followed Kohli from his early days and are aware of him becoming one of the greatest batsmen in the modern era. Kohli spoke more about his motives in playing the sport and said that the objective wasn't about the records or landmarks anymore. It was solely about ensuring that he gives his absolute best to the sport before ending his career. Kohli said with a smile : "I don't want to finish my career thinking of what if I had done this on that particular day. I can't keep going on and on forever. It's just about not leaving any undone business behind and not having any regrets later which I'm very sure I won't have" The former India captain has always been a player known for his sheer hard work and intensity in every game. Over the years he has built a reputation of leaving it all out on the field be it for India or Royal Challengers Bengaluru. While Kohli still continues to remain one of the biggest sports icons in the world, it seems like he may choose a life away from the limelight once he retires from cricket. However the time of his retirement is nowhere close in the near future, judging by the consistent performances from the bat. Kohli's performance in IPL 2024 where he scored 661 runs at a strike rate of 155 and an average of 66 has proven his class once again. While there are continued speculations on retirement, Kohli's motive is clear and that is to give it his best until the end and retire without a single regret in his heart.
