Rohit Sharma had announced his retirement from Test cricket earlier this month; however, his influence on the team's decisions seems to be alive even now. Recently, T. Dilip has been reappointed in the India men's cricket team as the fielding coach. As per few reports, the former Indian Test captain has recommended T. Dilip's name again as the fielding coach. According to Cricbuzz, Rohit Sharma likely has a good relationship with Dilip and had personally recommended his name to the head coach, Gautam Gambhir. And Gambhir seemed to have valued Ro's suggestion. However, a PTI report suggested that Dilip will stay for a year as long as the team is not getting a suitable option. Earlier, it surfaced that BCCI wasn't looking to retain Dilip. They were looking for someone beyond the country. However, they failed to get someone and decided to stick with him. His previous stint ended with Rahul Dravid's tenure after India’s T20 World Cup triumph in 2024. Dilip had joined the team in 2021 under Dravid and continued through his notice period under the new setup led by Gautam Gambhir. A BCCI source told Indian Express that Dilip will travel with the team to England for the upcoming five-Test series. The source said, “We have decided to reappoint Dilip for a year and he will be travelling with the Indian team for England. His contract so far is for one year.” Known for innovative ways to boost fielding standards, Dilip gained attention for awarding top fielders after every game, a trend seen during the 2023 ODI and 2024 T20 World Cups. Ravichandran Ashwin praised him for enhancing India’s slip-catching, especially with players like Jaiswal stepping up. The squad, including Dilip, departs for England around June 6.
