Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 has hit with some serious financial problems, in which a couple of franchises failed to pay the players. It resulted in the crisis of non-payment which resulted in loss of confidence for the management and even raised the concerns about future of the league. The National Sports Council (NSC), on Thursday, immediately responded by constituting a three-member fact-finding committee to look into the matter. This decision follows repeated delays in salary payments when franchises such as Durbar Rajshahi and Chittagong Kings have failed to honor their financial commitments to the players. The delay in payments has brought frustration into the players, especially local players, which has thrown a bad name that questions the credibility of the league. There are not just issues of finance but also an unhealthy testimonial for BCB and the overall structure of Bangladeshi cricket. As the international players hesitate from participating in the league, the reputation of cricket in the country tarnishes. Durbar Rajshahi players, frustrated with the delayed payments, even boycotted their training session on January 15. The franchise owner, Shafiq Rahman, repeatedly pushed back payment dates, and the players had no choice but to protest. Players of Rajshahi said that they hadn't received their salary yet and overseas players received only 25% of it that too after January 6. On the other hand, local players did not have any pay at all. Likewise, Parvez Hossain Emon, a player of Chittagong Kings, could not receive his salary, and franchise owner Samir Kader Chowdhury said that Emon didn't "satisfy" him enough to be paid. These persistent problems mean a gloomy future for Bangladesh Premier League, casting an ill image about the ability to attract the superstars going ahead.
