Each year, Google reports what people searched the most in various categories that range from news, sports, and entertainment to international relations, and more. Of these, the list of most searched sports teams is always in focus. This year's list once again showed the shifting global sports followings and also the ever-growing popularity of cricket and the IPL. What stands out most is that two IPL teams feature inside the top five. The interesting bit is that both of these teams have never won an IPL title since the league began in 2008. Even without a trophy, they have created massive fan interest, which helped them enter the top five most searched sports teams of 2025. In position No. 1 is Paris Saint Germain, or PSG, from France's Ligue 1. Coming in second is S.L. Benfica from Portugal's top football league. Both have huge support around the world and boast a strong history with their respective loyal fanbases. No. 3 is the Toronto Blue Jays, a Major League Baseball team from the USA. Their cause for rising in search rankings is quite logical: they are runners-up in the 2025 World Series. This performance by them made them one of the most talked-about topics this year. The next two entries are from the Indian Premier League. In fourth and fifth positions come Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals, respectively. Neither of the two sides has ever won an IPL trophy; their presence in the top five, nonetheless, shows their massive popularity. Punjab Kings reached the IPL 2025 final under new captain Shreyas Iyer but lost to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, who finally won their first-ever IPL title that season.
