In a recent update, 29-year-old wicketkeeper-batter N Jagadeesan will replace the injured Rishabh Pant for the remainder of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025. The Tamil Nadu right-handed wicketkeeper-batter is almost certain to be included in the Indian squad, with an announcement expected shortly, according to CricBuzz. Pant has been excluded from the series because of a fractured right toe, which he suffered during Day 1 of the fourth Test at Old Trafford in Manchester when he was batting. However, the 27-year-old came out to bat on Day 2 and scored 54 runs before being castled by Jofra Archer. The BCCI earlier confirmed that Pant will bat in this match if the team requires, but he won't be able to keep the wickets. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), the national selectors, and the team management have been looking for his replacement since Pant got injured on Day 1 and he was ruled out of the next game, citing a six week recovery period. The selectors had also considered Ishan Kishan as an option, but 27-year-old Jharkhand keeper-batter is not available. Jagadeesan's pick is on the strength of his steady home performances, particularly in four-day cricket. In 52 first-class games, he has made 3,373 runs at 47.50 with 14 fifties and 10 centuries. During the last Ranji Trophy season, Jagadeesan had scored 674 runs in eight games at an average of 56.16. His score consisted of two hundreds and five fifties and he remained the top run-scorer for Tamil Nadu in the league. Second in this row were wicketkeepers, led by Vidarbha's Akshay Wadkar, who scored 722 runs in 10 games at 45.12. The selectors could also have selected KS Bharat, a wicketkeeper-batter, who is presently turning out for Dulwich CC in club cricket in England. Bharat, who has already appeared in a Test in England, was not in the reckoning. Dhruv Jurel is a member of the present team and will be keeping wickets in the ongoing Old Trafford Test. India also has KL Rahul as a reserve wicketkeeper, as he has kept wickets in international matches, such as the World Cup and the Champions Trophy.
