India won their first ICC Trophy in 2024 since the 2013 Champions Trophy, and it was with Rahul Dravid. India was almost on the edge of winning the 2023 World Cup at home but the defeat left deep scars on both players and fans. It somehow healed to an extent when Rohit Sharma and co., along with his "work wife," Rahul Dravid won the T20 Worl Cup at Barbados. However, India saw a transition in the coaching group, with Gautam Gambhir taking over as the head coach. Ro won the 2025 Champions Trophy around February, having Gambhir in the camp. Rohit Sharma recently attended the CEAT Cricket Rating awards, where he literally omitted Gambhir's name while speaking about the Champions Trophy success. While acknowledging how much he loved working with the group for the last few years, he stressed how the hunger for a win was not a year or two's work. Rohit often spoke about the 2023 World Cup defeat which he did again, and said that not once but many a time India came close but missed. And thereafter they figured out a different way and that worked for the team. Ro stated, "All the guys who took part in that competition (Champions Trophy) got into that thought process of how to win games and how to challenge ourselves and not be complacent and not to take anything for granted." He added, “Those were the qualities that we tried to bring in and we thought it was a good method of just going and doing that repeatedly. Everyone enjoyed that process. Once we got over the line when we won the first game, we completely put that game aside and then started focusing on the next one. That was really good from the team and that is something that helped me and Rahul bhai when we were planning for the (2024) T20 World Cup, and then on to the Champions Trophy. We just carried it well. He said, "I personally took a lot of pride in trying to excel in all three forms whenever I had the opportunity and that is something that a few others also did and that eventually rubbed off on the team as well." Currently, he is gearing up for the upcoming three-match ODI series. For that he is awaiting a fresh challenge, which he feels is normal for an Australian team. Ro said, "I love playing against them. I love going to Australia. It’s a very challenging country to play cricket. People there love the game as well. But certainly, Australia is a different challenge every time they have played against us. Having been there now several times, I do understand what to expect. Hopefully we can go there and do what the Indian team is supposed to do and get the result in our favour.” Rohit Sharma has recently been sacked from the ODI captaincy. Shubman Gill, who is currently leading the Test side, has been awarded the crown in ODI too.
