The future of Indian cricket legends Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli in the ODI World Cup 2027 remains uncertain. Chief selector Ajit Agarkar revealed that both players haven’t yet committed to participating in the marquee event. Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who played together in the Champions Trophy, have been included in the team for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia from October 19. Refuting speculations over their future role in the World Cup, Agarkar clarified that the team selected currently was only for this series, and their participation in the 2027 ODI World Cup would be decided based on how well they play and are fit after eight months without a game. No Rohit-Kohli for 2027 ODI WC? Making it clear in a press conference, Ajit Agarkar stated, "Both Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma are non-committal about the 2027 World Cup" He further stated that the pair will be carefully watched once the Australia series is over to see whether they can maintain the kind of form and fitness they need for the World Cup. The selector also called upon both of them to play domestic cricket when they have the time. The next available chance will be the Vijay Hazare Trophy in December-January. “We have made it clear that if guys are free, they should be playing domestic cricket," stated Agarkar. In spite of the ambiguity, Agarkar insisted that Rohit and Kohli are still powerful leaders in the dressing room. Agarkar stated: "They have been doing for years, try and score runs. They are still leaders in the dressing room. They have been extremely successful in this format. This team has been picked for Australia, you don’t need to think too far." As Rohit Sharma will be 40 and Virat Kohli 38 at the time of the 2027 World Cup, their ODI future is being handled cautiously. The Australia series will serve as an important barometer to see if they are ready for the next big 50-over tournament. India's cricketing community awaits with bated breath the performance of the duo legends in Australia and if they will ultimately sign up for the 2027 ODI World Cup.
