Rajasthan Royals head coach Rahul Dravid has backed the team’s decision-making processes this season, ahead of their crucial match against Lucknow Super Giants on Saturday. RR are currently languishing in eighth place, with five losses from seven matches. Their most recent defeat came in a Super Over against Delhi Capitals, a match that sparked heavy criticism over tactical choices. Dravid, however, stood by the leadership group and took responsibility for the team’s decisions. “The decisions are being made by me and with Sanju Samson being an integral part of that and consultation with our other coaches and our analyst team,” Dravid said. He further added: “No one claims that every decision that even experts make works out and is correct. But I respect the fact and I am very confident of the team that I have around me, that is supporting me and Sanju in making these decisions.” On Sandeep Sharma being chosen to bowl the Super Over, Dravid said the decision was based on trust and past performances. “Sandeep is someone that we trust. He has bowled all the difficult overs for us in this tournament. We felt he was the right bowler for us on that wicket in those conditions with the skills that he has.” Death bowling is a major concern for Rajasthan Dravid also admitted that death bowling is an area where RR need to improve. In their last two matches, the team has conceded 72 and 77 runs respectively in the final five overs, numbers that have hurt their chances significantly. “We suffered a little bit with our death bowling. It has been those two-three extra boundaries which I think we need to work on and we need to get better at. But it is more an execution issue. I think the quality is there.” With Jos Buttler, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Yuzvendra Chahal no longer part of the squad, Rajasthan have had to adapt quickly to a new core. Despite the challenges, Dravid expressed faith in the current group. “There are some rules in auctions, and sometimes changes are forced. But we believe the players we’ve picked make for a good team.” Rajasthan Royals will hope to turn things around when they take on Lucknow Super Giants on April 19.
