The suspension of the Indian Premier League has troubled many teams, with Delhi Capitals probably set to miss their star pacer Mitchell Starc. According to certain reports, the Australian speedster will not return to India for the remainder of the IPL 2025 season. This smooth scenario was disrupted with the sudden suspension of the tournament for one whole week. All hope is restored that, with the IPL 2025 resuming on Saturday, May 17, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) would meet the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). It is quite interesting to note how both teams managed to defeat Delhi Capitals on its home turf, Arun Jaitley Stadium, earlier in the season. The second half has been damaging for the DC campaign. They seem to be struggling on maintaining their form as they have only managed to win 2 of their last 8 matches. One was with a no-result, and another against Punjab Kings (PBKS) is treated as a no-result and is to be replayed. The Times of India said that Starc will miss out on DC's remaining three league games and would not be available for the playoffs, provided DC has made it through, of course. This had almost been expected. The left-arm pacer had had quite a striking start to the season, capturing eight wickets in two games and now holds 14 wickets from an average bowling strike rate of 15.0. However, the left-hander really wipes off those gains with a relinquishing economy rate of 10.17! Official reasons haven't been given about Starc skipping the IPL. Presumably, the real reason must be Australia's big World Test Championship (WTC) 2025 final against South Africa starting on June 11. Dushmantha Chameera was the only overseas player in attendance. Faf du Plessis and Tristan Stubbs will be joining them shortly. Sage Kevin Pietersen, who had flown home during the break, is going to return to the team today, 16th May. With the doubt over Starc, DC had brought in Mustafizur Rahman as a replacement for Jake Fraser-McGurk. While this was not a like-for-like switch, Mustafizur's presence, with the traffic-building left-arm pace especially under the conditions, proved handy and filled the void left by Starc.
