Earlier this month, it was revealed that the Champions League T20 (CLT20) will return in a new guise, as the World Clubs Championship (WCC). The competition, where franchises from various league teams faced each other, was abandoned in 2015 for poor ratings. But with steam rising over the Saudis attempting to challenge cricket boards through a 6-team tournament to be known as the Saudi Super Slam, the CLT20 is being resurrected. And it's being supported by the International Cricket Council (ICC). The plan was discussed at the World Cricket Connects 2025, last month. CEOs of franchise leagues were present, and the ICC Chairman Jay Shah attended it as well. Nobody from the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) or Pakistan Super League (PSL) attended though. Here is what sources told PTI “The Pakistan Cricket Board was invited to send its CEO of the PSL for a meeting held on the sidelines of the Cricket Connect meeting in London last month but no one showed up. The PCB didn’t show up and strangely, Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has also not regularly attended ICC meetings,” Also Read | Virat Kohli Applauds ‘Star Boy’ Gill After Edgbaston Brilliance No IPL Teams in WCC Even with BCCI Support That eliminates one big market. And the largest market, India, won't be either. None of the Indian Premier League teams will participate in the WCC even with the support of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. As far as is known, only 5 teams will be competing from 5 different leagues. And IPL or PSL won't be among them. “Discussions were held on the proposed World Clubs Championship, its window, format, schedule, etc. (The) CEOs of the Emirates League, Big Bash League, The Hundred, SA20, MLC, Caribbean Premier League, etc., attended the meeting. Though the planned event has the backing of the Indian board, for the inaugural championship there will be no IPL participation,” the source added.
