Skipper Rohit Sharma landed in Mumbai on Monday night, while other players departed for their respective cities. The squad members have been granted a short break before they rejoin their IPL franchises ahead of the tournament starting on March 22. A BCCI official said, "All the players traveling with families left from Dubai on Monday. Some players have chosen to stay back for a couple of days." Despite India winning their second ICC title in nine months, the board did not plan any formal felicitation. Players have opted for rest, prioritizing recovery ahead of the hectic IPL season. Back in July 2024, after India’s T20 World Cup win, the team had returned home on a special flight and even met Prime Minister Narendra Modi. This time, there were no such plans. Middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer, who played a vital role in India’s success, will now take charge as Punjab Kings’ captain. He is expected to join his franchise on March 16. The Champions Trophy win came after India defeated New Zealand by four wickets in the final, maintaining an unbeaten streak throughout the tournament. Though Pakistan was the official host of the Champions Trophy, India played all their matches in Dubai due to the hybrid model arrangement. Despite the absence of a grand welcome, the historic win remains a proud moment for Indian cricket.
