The wait goes on for a quickie to take the reins in Test cricket for India. Jasprit Bumrah, who was pretty much the top pick to take over from Rohit Sharma, has decided to sit this one out. It's all about managing that workload, you see. With India's schedule jam-packed with games, the guy's gonna need some breaks here and there. So, playing all five Tests against England in a month? Nah, not happening. Bumrah has had a go at being the main man in three Tests before. He was in charge during that 5th Test against England that didn't get finished, and also took the reins for a couple of games down under during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Australia. But, he's thinking more about playing in the long run, especially in the Test scene. So, he's decided that being captain isn't the best fit for him right now. Was Bumrah a better captaincy choice? Don't worry, though. Bumrah's still a big deal in the Indian bowling department. This guy's got a sharp cricket brain and skills that are out of this world. He's sticking around in the leadership team to help out with the bowlers, which is pretty cool. He's like that wise uncle who's always there with some solid advice. Rohit Sharma’s leaving the scene pretty much made Bumrah the go-to guy to take over, right? But, man, his injury situation and the whole deal with not burning him out played a part in changing that plan. And then there’s Hardik Pandya, who also missed his shot because the folks making the decisions didn’t want someone who’d need breaks all the time. But the thing is, even when compared to Hardik, Bumrah’s still super important for India’s Test games in foreign lands. Now, Gill’s looking pretty good here. He’s got that solid track record and this cool, mature vibe going on that makes him the top choice. He’s had a rough go of it in IPL 2025, not really wowing anyone with his batting or captain skills. Meanwhile, Gill’s been chilling and playing smart, which is why everyone’s giving him props for his leadership style. So, if we’re betting on who’s more likely to grab that Test captain spot, I’d put my money on Gill.
