Gujarat Titans edged past Mumbai Indians in a last-ball thriller at the Wankhede, pulling off a three-wicket win in a rain-hit clash that went right down to the wire. While there were plenty of what-ifs in the game, Hardik Pandya made it clear that the no-balls cost them the game. Pandya said there was no excuse and called it a crime. “The catches didn't really cost us. We were very clinical with that,” Hardik said after the match. “Maybe definitely with the no-balls, with my no-ball and even the last (over) no-ball. That, in my eyes, indeed it's a crime, and most often than not it kind of bites you. It definitely did to us,” Pandya said during the post-match presentation. Pandya referred to the three no-balls MI bowled, two from himself in the 8th over that leaked 18 runs, and one from Deepak Chahar in the final over, with 14 to defend. Shubman Gill, who was dropped by Tilak Varma on 35, went on to score 43, but Hardik insisted that wasn’t the real issue. They lost 6 wickets for 58 runs in the final 9.3 overs. However, the bowlers brought them back into the contest, especially in wet conditions where gripping the ball became difficult. “We were short with the bat”: Hardik applauds fight from bowlers Hardik credited his bowling unit for pushing the match to the last delivery despite being 20-30 runs short on what he felt was a 175-run pitch. “It was definitely not a 150 wicket. I think it was a 175 [surface]. We were definitely short in batting by 20-25 runs or maybe 30 runs if you would have batted well,” he said. He also appreciated the effort, saying that the team was in the game until the last moment. “Credit to the bowlers, they kept fighting and they kept bowling at the right areas. Really happy with the boys giving their 120% and making sure that we are in the game and not giving up.” Also READ: Shubman Gill’s Stellar Captaincy in IPL 2025 for GT He also spoke about how the rain and wet conditions made things more difficult in the second innings. “In the first innings, the ground was not wet. Post that, throughout the whole innings, the ball kept getting wetter. I don't know if it helped us or not helped us, but yeah, it was difficult. Rain kept coming in. It's always not really ideal to have a stoppage and start again and have a stoppage. But the game goes on.” Despite the loss, Mumbai sit in the 4th spot of the points table but has played 12 matches. Now, the team must win remaining two matches to confirm their direct qualification. They can still qualify if they win one of the two matches but will have to depend on other results.
