Pakistan announces a 17-man squad for the tri- series and 2025 Asia Cup hosted in the UAE. Led by Salman Ali Agha, the two Pak seniors, Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan, are notable misses in the squad. For a long time, Azam's form was a big concern for the Pak selectors. And this time they decided to move on from the loop and gave chances to a bunch of new blood. Meanwhile, Mike Hesson will be touring as the head coach of the team. Despite being overlooked for the T20Is for a long time, fast bowlers Shaheen Afridi and Haris Rauf have gotten their calls for the tournament. Young talents like Hasan Nawaz, Salman Mirza and Sufyan Moqim have been trusted, while Mohammad Haris retains his gloves as the keeper. Notably, the Asia Cup is starting on September 9 and will continue till September 28. Pakistan will play their first match of the group stage, against Oman, on September 12. Thereafter they will face India on September 14 in Dubai, and will play against UAE on September 17. The country has been slated with India, Oman and the UAE in group A. Well before the Asia Cup kicks in, Pakistan will play a tri-series involving Afghanistan and UAE. The series has been scheduled from August 29 to September 7 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It is believed that the tri-series will provide necessary preparations for the Asia Cup 2025.
