Only a couple of days before from the Delhi Premier League (DPL) 2025 mega auction, a huge news has emerged regarding ex-KKR skipper Nitish Rana. Although he was back with the Delhi side after a dismal spell with Uttar Pradesh (UP), Rana will not be featuring in DPL 2025. Why? A BCCI regulation that prevents him. The DPL auction is on July 6 at 10 AM, but Rana won't be in it. A Rough Patch at UP Comes to an End with Return to Delhi Rana returned to Delhi recently after obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the UP Cricket Association. He had relocated to UP in 2023 in an attempt to revive his red-ball career and even captained the UP team. But things did not go according to plan. In 10 First-Class matches, he scored only 447 runs with a single century. His one-day and T20 form were also poor, 72 runs in 7 List A matches and 314 runs in 16 T20s. He was removed from UP's Ranji side and didn't get selected for the UP T20 League auction this year. So, he thought of going back to Delhi, where he started his career. The reports indicate that India head coach Gautam Gambhir, who has coached Rana for years, assisted him in making the transition. Numerous fans were expecting Rana to take to the field in DPL's second season, which now contains 8 teams. But he will not be featured at the auction this year. This is due to a BCCI regulation on state transfers. Under the rule, any player shifting to a new state team is required to wait for 12 months before they can play for that state's T20 league. Rana led a UP team in their domestic T20 league recently, and therefore, his cooling-off period has not expired. In a conversation with CricBlogger, a BCCI source said: “Unfortunately, the 12-month cooling-off rule does not allow Rana to participate in the DPL this season. He has taken a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from UP and is eligible to represent Delhi officially, but he can only play the DPL next year." Therefore, for the time being, fans will only get to see Rana at national-level domestic competitions.
