The Indian Test captain, Shubman Gill, landed in some unwanted controversies regarding sponsors during the second Test match at Edgbaston. On day 4, in Birmingham, Gill was seen in the Indian dugout instructing the players to come back as India declared their second innings at 427 runs. Ravindra jadeja and Washington Sundar were on the crease when Gill came out wearing a black full-sleeve vest with the Nike logo and directed them to come back. Notably, the Indian jersey is sponsored by Adidas now. In June 2023, during Rohit Sharma's tenure, the team wore the Adidas-sponsored new jerseys in the WTC finals. India sealed a deal of 75 lakh per game. The overall value is estimated to be between Rs 250 to RS 300 crore. Watching Gill wearing a Nike logo, fans took to the X handle, saying it was wrong of him to wear some other sponsors. Will BCCI take action? It is not known. But Gill himself has a lucrative deal with Nike. He is the brand ambassador of Nikey Virey. Gill’s combined 430 runs not only dismantled England’s bowling but also shattered records with sublime strokeplay and maturity under pressure. While Gill stole the show, India’s success was a team effort. Akash Deep stunned with match figures of 10 wickets, including a 6-fer in the second innings. Siraj bagged 7 wickets, including a brilliant 6/70 in England’s first innings. Jadeja and Pant contributed crucial runs, with Jadeja scoring 89 and 69* in both innings. Despite valiant knocks from Harry Brook (158) and Jamie Smith (184 & 88), England were overpowered. This win marks a landmark moment in India’s overseas Test legacy.
