Ex-England opener Nick Knight spoke about James Anderson's absence from the next series between England and India. While all the discussions have been about India missing the services of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, England will be staging their first home series against India in more than two decades without Anderson. Knight believed England needed to move on from the veteran bowler. The former English batsman believed India would be relieved not to have to play Anderson in the series, who was an ever-present in the side for many years. He then spoke about the re-naming of the Pataudi Trophy to the Anderson-Tendulkar trophy and said it had arrived at the appropriate time. Knight remembered the days when he had played with Anderson. Here is what Nick Knight said in an interview "England will move forward now. And they’ve got plenty of talent, plenty of abilities like all these guys. But I’m certainly sure that India would be happy to see him retire now. And I think the last series that India won (in England) was in 2007, probably Jimmy was part of that series as well. So, he’s been a constant," "It’s a very, very fine tribute. And the right sort of timing for the Jimmy Anderson-Tendulkar trophy. Just the kind of right thing to do in such an iconic series. I played with Jimmy when he first came in. I was sort of someone at the back end of my career. And he was just starting out. You could see right from the start he was a lad who had great control of the swinging ball," Also Read | Cricket is Poorer Without Kohli and Rohit, Says Joe Root The retired English cricketer alleged Anderson had the technique to sneak the ball into or out of the batters with even less room. Knight believed Anderson did not yield much to the batters through his bowling action also. Knight ended by stating that Anderson's figures did the talking, although he was a hard nut to handle. "And very little discernible difference between the one that went in and the one that went away. I think that of all the little skills he had, technically, that was a great skill. It’s very difficult to predict which way the ball was going out of his hand. Very similar action as well. Did not give away tell-tale signs. So, he was very difficult to face. Obviously, he had enough nip and pace as well. Yeah, I mean, obviously the numbers look after themselves," Knight concluded. James Anderson has featured in every Test series India played in England from 2007 to 2021. He made his debut in 2003, a year before India managed to draw a Test series in England. He was part of the 2007 squad when India registered a rare overseas series win. However, India faced defeats in England in the subsequent series held in 2011, 2014, 2018, and 2021 all of which saw Anderson playing a key role.
