Nicholas Pooran of Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) was one of the match-winning characters for the Kieron Pollard-captained side in their Caribbean Premier League (CPL) 2024 match against Barbados Royals on Friday, September 27. The match was in Tarouba, where Pooran batted at No. 3 position. He scored as many as 27 runs with four boundaries and one six off just 15 deliveries. Pakistan's wicket-keeper batter Mohammad Rizwan had smashed the record of most T20 runs in a calendar year created in the year 2021. He had scored 2036 runs in 48 matches of T20. Pooran surpassed that record by scoring 2059 runs in 66 games of T20 played in the year 2024. This season, Pooran has represented several teams across other leagues instead of his own country. These teams include Lucknow Super Giants of the Indian Premier League, MI New York of Major League Cricket, Durban Super Giants from SA20, MI Emirates in ILT20, Northern Superchargers in The Hundred, Rangpur Riders in Bangladesh Premier League, and Trinbago Knight Riders of CPL. Pooran and Rizwan are the only two players in T20 history to score more than 2000 runs in one single year. Rizwan scored 2036 runs in 2021. Meanwhile, the third and fourth position are held by England's Alex Hales and Jos Buttler, who scored 1946 runs in 2022 and 1833 runs in 2023, respectively. The fifth spot again goes to Rizwan with 1817 runs in 2022 followed by Pakistan captain Babar Azam, who scored 1779 runs in 2021. He totalled 1614 runs in 31 T20 matches in 2016. Suryakumar Yadav is at No 2 on that list for India, scoring 1503 runs in 2022 and 1338 runs in 2023. Trinbago Knight Riders Defeated Barbados Royals Trinbago Knight Riders thrashed Barbados Royals by 30 runs in the match itself and therefore secured third position on the CPL 2024 points table. Kieron Pollard led the show for TKR with a high score of 42 off 27 balls, supported by Keacy Carty and Andre Russell both with 32 and 31 run knocks respectively as TKR went on to post a challenging total of 175/5 in 20 overs. The Royals were unable to reach the target and could muster only 145/9 in the 20 overs. The bowlers of TKR went fairly well at their end while defending the total to win the match for them.
