On Tuesday, June 10, West Indies star batter Nicholas Pooran announced his retirement from international cricket at just 29. While he did not clarify the cause behind such a drastic decision, it is speculated that he is probably opening his window for more league cricket. In the West Indies, it is not abnormal to prioritize Leagues over country. However, there might be other reasons too. Nicholas Pooran recently completed playing in the Indian Premier League, representing Lucknow Super Giants, where he bagged 524 runs in 14 matches, with a rate of nearly 200. Notably, he was paid INR 21 crores for the season. However, there might be other reasons as well for him to step out with just 8 months left until the coming T20 World Cup. Recently, the former West Indian captain appealed for a leave from the recently concluded white ball series against England. And the announcement came right after that. However, Pooran was deprived of the central contract list released by Cricket West Indies in 2024, even as several top-tier, all-format players received multi-year deals.
