The Kiwis achieved their biggest historic milestone when they defeated the Indian team in the first Test match in Bengaluru. After 36 years, New Zealand has secured a historic Test match victory over India on Indian soil. Although the visitors lost a couple of wickets in the chase, Will Young and Rachin Ravindra saw them home with ease, securing an 8-wicket victory. This win made Tom Latham the only third New Zealand captain to lead his team to a Test win in India, with their last victory dating back to 1988 under John Wright's leadership at Wankhede Stadium. After the complete washout on the first day, the game resumed early on the second day as Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bat first, but the decision backfired spectacularly. With the favorable bowling conditions, Matt Henry and William O'Rourke ripped through the batting lineup, leaving India all out for a meager 46 runs. Despite this, India mounted a spirited comeback in their second innings, with Sarfraz Khan scoring a fighting 150 and Rishabh Pant falling just short of a century with 99. At one point, it seemed like India might turn the tide, but a late collapse meant they set a target of just 107 runs for New Zealand. With this victory, New Zealand's confidence is sky-high, and they'll be aiming to clinch the series in the next match. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma and his team will be desperate to bounce back, as another loss could seriously damage their chances of making the WTC Final. The second Test is set to take place in Pune, starting on October 24.
