The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has put together a new panel to draw up guidelines for post-IPL title celebrations. The move comes after a fatal incident in Bengaluru this June, when a huge crowd rushed into the area outside M Chinnaswamy Stadium to celebrate Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s first-ever IPL win. The rush turned into a stampede. Eleven people died and many were injured. The incident raised questions about preparedness and oversight during large-scale sporting events. BCCI made the announcement during its Apex Council meeting. It formed a team of 3 members to outline clear norms and protocols to avoid such scenes in future. The panel will be led by Devajit Saikia, who is the board’s secretary. He will be supported by vice-president Rajeev Shukla and treasurer Prabhtej Singh Bhatia. The members have 15 days to draft the guidelines. Once final, these will apply to all future IPL post-victory ceremonies across India. The BCCI said it wants to make sure fans can celebrate safely and without causing chaos or putting their lives at risk. In the official statement released, BCCI said, “In light of the incident that occurred during the victory celebrations in Bengaluru, the Apex Council has decided to constitute a committee to formulate comprehensive guidelines aimed at preventing such occurrences in the future.” 🚨 NEWS 🚨BCCI convened its 28th Apex Council Meeting on Saturday and made the following key decisions 👇🔹 A committee to be constituted to formulate comprehensive guidelines aimed at preventing occurrences similar to the victory celebrations in Bengaluru. An estimated 200,000 people turned up near the stadium, exceeding its capacity and ignoring police advisories. There were reports that the team was meant to celebrate with a parade from Vidhana Soudha, but this was called off. Nevertheless, fans rushed into the area, causing a crush. The event proceeded without proper clearances and ignoring road and safety instructions. The state government and Karnataka authorities demanded action from both the franchise and the BCCI. RCB’s head of marketing and two officials from event agency DNA Entertainment were later arrested in connection with the incident. The Karnataka State Cricket Association’s secretary and treasurer also resigned in the wake of the tragedy. The state called upon the BCCI to take responsibility for poor planning and control. The newly formed panel is now expected to submit its recommendations within two weeks. The board plans to implement these guidelines to avoid future chaos and tragedy during post-victory events.
