Indian domestic cricket season will start on 11 October Friday with the first round of Ranji Trophy. Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has brought some vital changes in playing rules. First, if for a moment a batter retires for reason other than injury, he is to be considered out immediately. This means that he may not return to bat in that innings however much the opposing captain wishes this. In a message sent to state teams on Thursday, the BCCI stated: "A] 25.4.3 Batter retiring for any reason other than injury, illness or unavoidable cause: He will be considered as dismissed immediately on retirement and will NOT have the option of returning to bat even with the consent of the opposing captain." The note on this clause concludes with the statement: "Applicable for all BCCI domestic matches." This applies to all the domestic matches conducted under the auspices of the BCCI. Under the new rules, it also would mean that if both teams are to go for a Super Over, neither will have the choice of resuming batting, under any circumstances. The BCCI has also changed the rule on aborting a run. The new rule states, "Once the batters decide to abort a run after crossing and a boundary result from an overthrow before they have re-crossed, only boundary 4 shall be scored." As per the understanding the board reached during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. Another change is the CK Nayudu competition and how points can be earned in the process. There are two cases here: Scenario 1: Suppose Team 'A' bats first and is bowled out for 398 runs in 98 overs. Then they will earn 4 batting points. Assume again that while fielding, 5 penalty runs are added to the total of Team 'A' and their total goes up to 403 runs in 98 overs. Team 'A' will now get 5 batting points. Scenario 2: if Team 'A' bats first and is dismissed within 100.1 overs, then they'll get 4 batting points. And if Team A gets 5 penalty runs while it's bowling, then team A's score becomes 403 runs, but they will not get the 5th batting point.
