A 10-day window has been announced for the Women's Big Bash League and the Big Bash League, following on from when both competitions conclude this summer. Dubbed the Player Movement Window, this window will provide sooner resolution on contract decisions of players and teams. It will open ten days after the ending of the WBBL and BBL finals. During the window, teams can: 1. Trade with other teams; 2. Secure a player from another team in their final year of contract; 3. Trade Overseas Player Draft picks either as part of a player trade or in a separate trade. WBBL's trading window will be valid from 02 Dec (9:00 AEDT) to 11 Dec (5:00 AEDT). and for BBL, it will be valid from 28 Jan 2025 (09:00 AEDT) to 06 Feb 2025 (5:00 AEDT). Teams are also denied signing of players through extensions or re-signing their own from this period. Such extension of deals is subject to an embargo, and need to come either before or after this period. According to statements, the above embargo is to begin once the home and away seasons of both leagues close in, and will soon be lifted on March 2025. Teams also have roster size limits, with WBBL teams being able to have only up to 8 players before the window and can expand this to 10 afterwards during the window period. BBL teams, for their part, can list as many as 10 before the window and 12 after it. Pre-signed overseas players with multi-year deals count in this limit. Key Players with Multi-Year Contracts Some of the cricketers holding contracts that span more than a single season in WBBL include Lizelle Lee of Hobart Hurricanes, Chamari Athapaththu of Sydney Thunder, Sophie Devine of Perth Scorchers, Nadine de Klerk of Brisbane Heat, and Amelia Kerr of Sydney Sixers. BBL Finn Allen of Scorchers, Colin Munro of Heat, Marizanne Kapp of Melbourne Stars, Tim Seifert of Renegades, Chris Jordan of Hurricanes, Tom Curran of Stars, and Sam Billings of Thunder hold contracts running into consecutive seasons. The window for player movement is 10 days and only during this period of a declared embargo will a team be permitted to adjust its roster. Alistair Dobson, Cricket Australia's Executive General Manager, Big Bash Leagues said: "The introduction of Player Movement Windows immediately following the Weber WBBL|10 and KFC BBL|14 seasons will add another strategic dimension to our Leagues. The Windows will add certainty and stability for players and clubs at a crucial period in the list management cycle." Dobson added: "These new milestones on the Big Bash calendar will also increase talkability among our fans, broadcasters and the media as we grow our year-round presence. Our thanks go to our Big Bash clubs and the Australian Cricketers' Association for their collaboration on this project."
