In disappointing news coming from the Afghanistan camp is that their star pace Naveen-ul-Haq has been ruled out of the tournament due to a shoulder injury. The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) stated that Naveen has not been cleared by the medical team to participate in the upcoming matches and will continue to recover from his injury. Notably, Naveen-ul-Haq didn’t feature in the opening match for Afghanistan against Hong Kong, where the Rashid Khan-led side emerged victorious by a whopping 94 runs. He was added to the Asia Cup 2025 squad despite missing the recent UAE Tri-Series. His last played for Afghanistan in December 2024, against Zimbabwe in a T20I in Harare. The pacer was initially added to the reserve list of the Afghanistan squad. He was also featured in one match against the UAE in the recently concluded Tri-Series, where he picked one wicket in his three-over spell. Overall, in his T20I career so far, the 22-year-old pacer has picked up 15 wickets in just 11 matches. Talking about the performance of Afghanistan then they made a roaring comeback with a dominant 94-run victory over Hong Kong in their opening match after losing to Pakistan in the finals of the UAE Tri-Series. Azmatullah Omarzai and Sediqullah Atal were the star performers from the team with their respective half-centuries. They will be playing their next match against Bangladesh on September 16, and their final match is against Sri Lanka on September 18. If they could achieve a victory here, then they would be almost through to the Super Four stage in the tournament.
