In the latest developments from the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), the current Test captain of the Bangladesh team, Najmul Hossain Shanto, is likely to leave the Test captaincy after the Sri Lanka Test series, as per a report in Cricbuzz. There is no official confirmation about this report, but things are not looking as they should be in the Bangladesh camp, especially how things have gone with Najmul in recent times. This sudden move from the board not only broke the fans' sentiments but also Shanto’s emotions when he had earlier conveyed that he wanted to continue with the Test and ODI captaincy of the Bangladesh team. As per the source mentioned by Cricbuzz: “I think he will not continue as Test captain after the Test series against Sri Lanka.” The source further added that: "I have known him for a long time, and as far as I understand he is not happy with everything that is going around with him.” Najmul was earlier convinced by the BCB president, Faruque Ahmed to continue his captaincy in Tests and ODIs. But the sudden change in captaincy of the ODI team, from taking away the leadership from Shanto to giving away to Mehidy Hasan, didn’t go well and left him heartbroken. The 26-year-old batter was informed about his removal just before a scheduled meeting with the current head coach Phil Simmons. If talking about the current Test series, then Najmul Hossain Shanto played a phenomenal knock, scoring centuries across both innings. However, the first Test match resulted in a draw, but Bangladesh will be eyeing to seal the series in the second Test match. After the conclusion of the two-match Test series, Bangladesh will play a three-match ODI series against Sri Lanka starting from July 3. The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has already announced its 16-member squad for this series, and Mehidy Hasan will be seen leading the side. The squad also brings some new faces for the series.
