Mustafizur Rahman became one of the top five T20I wicket-takers on Wednesday, July 16. The left-arm pacer did it after he got the wicket of Jeffrey Vandersay in the third and final T20I of the series with Sri Lanka at the R. Premadasa Stadium, Colombo. In the process, Mustafizur surpassed Adil Rashid's total, albeit briefly, to become the fifth best on all-time on Wednesday after finishing with 1/17 in his four-over spell. Bangladesh won the match by eight wickets and 21 balls to spare to seal the three-match series, and of course, his stingy spell played a vital role in the do-or-die match. The experienced medium-pace bowler did not feature in the first match of the series. He did, however, come into the picture for the second and third ones in the absence of Taskin Ahmed. Mustafizur was equally impressive in the second T20I as well. His three overs produced only 14 runs. He also picked up a wicket on the last ball of his third over.
