Mumbai Indians have a great batting core and will look for bowlers like Yuzevendra Chahal to strengthen their bowling unit, feels former Indian cricketer and commentator Akash Chopra. Akash Chopra has a gut feeling about MI bidding hard for Chahal apart from Washington Sundar, for the 2025 squad. Chahal joined the Rajasthan Royals in 2022 after being a part of Royal Challengers Bengaluru. However, RR has decided not to retain him for the 2025 season. However, it was in Mumbai Indians, where Chahal played his first IPL match in 2013, under the leadership of young Rohit Sharma. Aakash Chopra on his YouTube channel pointed out that, "Their batting has become strong once again. The problem is that they have only one bowler, who is a four-over bank, but you need more bowlers. Bowling let them down last time as well. They used to score runs, 225 to 250, but used to concede that many as well." MI has retained five players: Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah. The retention list gave an idea of how the franchise focused on the batting. Bumrah is the only bowler retained, having some assistance from the all-rounder medium pacer Hardik Pandya. š„šš§ššš”šš ššššš“We have always believed that the strength of a family lies in its core and this belief has been reinforced during the course of recent events. We are thrilled that the strong legacy of MI will be carried forward by Jasprit, Surya, Hardik, Rohit and… pic.twitter.com/G70B6DyZhw — Mumbai Indians (@mipaltan) October 31, 2024 Chahal, who was once part of Mumbai, has high possibilities of making a comeback to the team. However, Chopra is unsure if they will choose one between Sundar and Chahal. Akash Chopra added, "So they had so much overdependence on the batting to fire, and scoring 20-40 runs above par every time is a bit too much. They might have an entire Indian batting lineup and an overseas bowling lineup, with a couple of Indian spinners. They will definitely go after Yuzi Chahal. I don't know whether they will get him or not. They might want to keep Washington Sundar." MI retention Bumrah, the only retained bowler in the squad, received Rs 18 crore from the team. Rs 16.35 crore has been provided to Hardik Pandya and Suryakumar Yadav. The former captain Rohit Sharma got Rs 16.3 crore while Tilak Varma got 8 crore. With an RTM card left, MI will enter the auction with a purse strength of Rs 45 crore.
