On Saturday, December 21, in the third and final ODI of the three-match series against Zimbabwe, at the Harare Sports Club, Afghanistan’s AM Ghazanfar took 5 wickets, becoming the first bowler to take multiple five-wicket hauls in ODIs as a teenager. Coming to the bowl first, the 18-year-old scalped five wickets, giving 33 runs after bowling 10 overs, with an economy of 3.3. Earlier in November, against Bangladesh, Ghazanfar registered figures of 6.3-1-26-6, sealing a 92-run victory for Afghanistan at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. He was then the fifth-youngest to bag five wickets, at the age of 18 years and 231 days. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Waqar Younis, Rashid Khan, Gulshan Jha, Wasim Akram, Aftab Ahmed, Taskin Ahmed, Aaqib Javed, Shaheen Shah Afridi, Naseem Shah, Sandeep Lamichhane, Mustafizur Rahman, Abdul Razzaq, Shariz Ahmed Saqlain Mushtaq are the other players to have ODI fifers as teenagers. They bowled out the guests at 127 runs within 30.1 overs, with Ghazanfar taking 5 wickets and the spin wizard Rashid Khan claiming 3. Ghazanfar claimed both openers of Zimbabwe, Joylord Gumbie and Ben Curran; and then cleared Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, and Newman Nyamhuri. Sean Williams has been the only positive of the batting collapse, as he scored 60 runs until Rashid Khan cleared him. Ghazanfar, who has 21 wickets in the ODIs at an economy rate of 4.05, hasn't yet had his breakthroughs in T20Is. However, he has 29 wickets from 16 matches with two four-wicket hauls in the T20s and has been a recent addition of Mumbai Indian for the 2024 IPL at a price of INR 4.80 crore.
