Punjab's Mullanpur stadium is all set to host the Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator match on March 29 and 30. And for that, Punjab Police has deployed tight security in the stadium and in the city. The heightened alert comes in the backdrop of rising tensions between India and Pakistan after the tragic Pahalgam attack. Despite concerns, officials have assured that both matches will go ahead as planned. The IPL had earlier been paused for a week due to military tensions. Now, with a revised schedule, all eyes are on Mullanpur, where fans are expected to arrive in large numbers from across the country. Special Director General of Police (Law and Order), Arpit Shukla, addressed the media on Wednesday. He said, “There are two very important matches at Mullanpur stadium tomorrow and day after tomorrow. There is a qualifier and an eliminator. People are coming from all corners of India. There is a lot of enthusiasm among the people." He added. “We have arranged for extensive security around the stadium and its periphery. Today, there is a review of it. Our police force is deployed — around 65 Gazetted officers and more than 2,500 personnel are on duty.” The police carried out mock drills on Tuesday and Wednesday to test their preparedness. Emergency teams, bomb squads, and anti-sabotage units have been activated. Special surveillance is being done using drones and CCTV cameras, while traffic control teams are working to manage vehicle flow near the venue. Shukla assured fans of smooth and secure match-day experiences. He stated. “We will ensure that those who are coming do not face any kind of trouble. On the other hand, the security measures will be very strict.” The government is also holding civil defence drills across Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Jammu & Kashmir. These drills, initiated post-Operation Sindoor, are aimed at improving emergency readiness. Notably, Royal Challengers Bengaluru will face Punjab Kings at Mullanpur this Thursday, while Gujarat Titans will play against Mumbai Indians for the eliminator match on Friday.
