With India set to face Australia in a much-awaited five-match Test series starting November 22, one of the biggest discussions has been around the exclusion of seasoned batter Cheteshwar Pujara from the Indian squad. Former chief selector MSK Prasad has voiced his concerns over this choice, hinting that Pujara’s absence could be a relief for Australia, especially given his impressive past performances against them. Speaking on RevSportz, he explained why he feels India's ability to handle spin has declined over time. Prasad also emphasized that Cheteshwar Pujara should have been included in the squad for the upcoming tour of Australia. MSK Prasad said: "Hundred percent (Cheteshwar) Pujara should have been in this team, especially given the kind of form some of our players are exhibiting. Statistically, you might have said that we would have won so many matches but we should have also looked at the form. We should have looked at those players who can stick on and hold the fort at one end." The former Indian selector then highlighted Cheteshwar Pujara's recent achievement of a superb double century in the Ranji Trophy. He further said: "Hats off to this great man. The other day, he got 243 in a game. He is 35-36 but he is in the right stage of his career. Whenever a guy like Pujara stands on the pitch, there is pressure on the opposition. Australians feel very happy looking at Pujara going back to the pavilion.” Cheteshwar Pujara played a crucial role in India’s victories in the last two Border-Gavaskar Trophy series. However, although India has already announced its squad for the upcoming series, Pujara’s name is notably absent. It will be interesting to see if Ajit Agarkar’s selection panel decides to make any adjustments to the lineup.
