When will Mahendra Singh Dhoni retire? This has been a common question since his international sign-off in 2019. Every year seems like the last one, but MS still manages to draw the crowd in number, as he appears in yellow. However, the former India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni has finally addressed the swirling rumors about his retirement. At 43, when expectations were high about his retirement, Dhoni still loved to keep his fans behind the clouds. Speaking at an app-launching event in Mumbai, Dhoni made it clear that he is in no rush to walk away from the game. The legendary cricketer, who retired from international cricket in 2020, stated that he simply wants to enjoy playing for as long as possible. Dhoni said, “I've retired since 2019, so it will be quite some time. What I've been doing in the meantime is I just want to enjoy cricket for the last, whatever few years, you know, I will be able to play. I want to enjoy it, how I did as a child when I was in school. When I lived in a colony, 4 o'clock (in the afternoon) was sports time, so we'd go and play cricket more often than not. But if the weather didn't permit, we used to play football. I want to play with the same kind of innocence... (but it is) easier said than done.” Read also: Watch: Sanju Samson Declines to Sign Bat, Respects Dhoni Focus on Priorities and Playing for Passion Apart from discussing his cricketing future, Dhoni also shared valuable advice for young fans. He stressed the importance of setting priorities and dedicating themselves fully to their goals. He added, “You always need to figure out what is good for you. When I was playing, I made sure that cricket was everything for me — nothing else mattered. What time I had to sleep? What time I had to get up? What impact it had on (my) cricket, that was the most important thing. You know, all the friendships, the fun, all those can happen later. There is a right time for everything, and I felt if you are able to recognize that, that's the best thing you can do (for yourself).” While Dhoni no longer plays any professional cricket apart from the IPL, his impact remains strong. Last season, despite playing lower in the batting order, he smashed 161 runs at an astonishing strike rate of 229.55. CSK has retained him for ₹4 crore, ensuring fans may see him for at least another season.
