CSK's former captain MS Dhoni is likely to lighten the weight of his bat for the IPL 2025 season. Dhoni, who was retained by CSK as an uncapped player, is already training in Ranchi for the tournament. As is the norm, he is expected to report to CSK's pre-IPL camp before the season starts. As per a New Indian Express report, Dhoni will make a minor tweak to his bat. He normally uses a bat between 1250-1300 grams, but sources indicate he might lower it by 10-20 grams. In his prime, Dhoni played with one of the heavier bats in cricket. A source revealed: "Four bats have been delivered to Dhoni recently by Sanspareils Greenlands Pvt. Ltd., the cricket equipment company from Meerut. Each bat weighs around 1230 grams with the same shape as before." CSK's pre-season training camp at MA Chidambaram Stadium won't begin earlier than March 10. One of the CSK management sources stated that the BCCI has told them that the stadium will not be available for use until March 9. Also Read | IPL 2025: Why DC, RR and PBKS Have Two Home Venues? A source from CSK management said: "The schedule of training has not been finalised yet. Anyway, the MA Chidambaram Stadium cannot be used for training purposes till March 9 as the BCCI has given strict instructions to maintain the venue in optimal conditions." On the other hand, Dhoni is working hard in Ranchi. He is practicing on a bowling machine to sharpen his skills. In IPL 2024, he was available for the whole season but played mostly at No. 8. Though he had limited chances, he made a difference by hitting sixes in the last overs. A Jharkhand State Cricket Association official said: "He used to train at the indoor facility. As there was no team camping here at the venue at that time, he was training with the bowling machine. He also played a friendly tennis match on the opening day of a tournament played here."
