The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax for Bihar and Jharkhand, Dr. D. Sudhakara Rao, recently shared some interesting news: former Indian cricket captain and current Chennai Super Kings (CSK) wicketkeeper MS Dhoni has emerged as the top individual taxpayer in both Bihar and Jharkhand. While the exact figure of Dhoni's income tax payment remains under wraps, it's clear he holds the number one spot. At 44 years old, he surpasses major industrial players like Central Coalfields Limited (CCL), Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), and Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPDI). The tax authorities have managed to collect a whopping INR 20,000 crore in taxes, with over 60% of that coming from Jharkhand alone. "The total collection from Bihar and Jharkhand during the financial year of 2025-26 was around Rs 20,000 crore, of which Rs 12,000 crore was collected only from Jharkhand," Dr D Sudhakara Rao was quoted as saying via MoneyControl. “M S Dhoni was the highest individual taxpayer combining Bihar and Jharkhand during the previous financial year,” he added. Even though he hung up his international boots more than five years ago, Dhoni continues to be one of the most beloved cricketers in India, thanks in large part to his ongoing connection with CSK. You can still catch him in various TV commercials, ensuring he has a reliable income stream. Currently, Dhoni is dealing with a calf injury he picked up just before the start of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL). While he remains part of the squad and trains regularly with his teammates, he hasn't yet stepped onto the field this season, which could potentially be his last in the 20-over format. CSK still has a shot at making the playoffs despite their up-and-down performance this season. The five-time champions sit in sixth place with 10 points, but they're just two points shy of breaking into the top four. Their next challenge is against the Lucknow Super Giants on Sunday, May 10.
