The phrase "lion-hearted" has been a trending one, mostly due to Mohammed Siraj's commitment to his team. Siraj, who has played all five Tests, batted, fielded, and bowled, did not complain about his workload; rather, he urged the Indian management staff to just let him play! Morne Morkel, the Indian bowling coach, revealed how Siraj wanted to avoid the physical and mental assessments before the five Tests just to let him play the final Test in the ongoing Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. After the day's play, Morkel said that Siraj was the first guy to come up and insist on playing the final Test. Morkel said, as quoted by PTI. "Before the start of the Test, there was conversation with him just to check in how he was feeling mentally and how he was feeling physically because of the amount of overs but he was the first guy to say, ‘listen, I want to play this Test match, I want to win it for the team, so not just the bowling front but it’s the attitude for me that is great." Morkel added, "You’ve got a guy with an attitude like that and he’s willing to run all day, I’m not surprised, that’s why he’s got the numbers." By day four of the fifth series, Mohammed Siraj has already bowled 181 overs, the highest for anyone in the entire series. He picked up 20 wickets, the highest, and still has to toil on day five, hoping to take the remaining 4 English wickets within just 35 runs. Sounds impossible, but the tired Indian legs seem to still believe on the 1% chance they have. Surprisingly, Siraj performs better when his senior and mentor, "Jassi Bhai," is not on the field. Explaining the glitch, Morkel said, "When Booms is not there you need to set the tone as a new ball bowler or the first change bowler or a guy who’s played, you know, more than 30, 40 Tests, so I think he just enjoys that opportunity when it’s given to him and he said it yesterday, I think in an interview, he just loves playing for India and putting the shirt on and performing." Notably, Bumrah was released by the side on July 31st after he was rested for the final Test. Meanwhile, Siraj took four wickets in the first and two in the second innings at The Oval.
