Former Pakistani cricketer, Moin Khan has lashed out at Ramiz Raja for how his son Azam Khan has been treated. A wicketkeeper batter, Azam has been body-shamed and failed to hold a spot in the team owing to his disappointing performances. He has so far played 14 matches since making his T20I debut in July 2021, scoring 88 runs at an average of 8.80 with his highest not-out score being 30. In his sole appearance for Pakistan in the T20 World Cup 2024, Azam was dismissed for a duck and then left out for the remaining matches of the tournament. Moin Khan blames the PCB and its former chairman Ramiz Raja for leaving his son out. He told Cricket Pakistan, "I watched the entire World Cup (in 2024) and the matches leading up to it, and it seemed like Azam was the number one choice for wicketkeeping and batting. Then suddenly, after just one match, the entire strategy was changed. Azam wasn't given a chance to keep wickets after one match and was dropped after getting out on the very first ball. Whether it's the captain or the management, if they make such quick changes to players, how can we produce good players?" He insinuated that if the chief selector made a wrong choice, they should have been changed. However, the management didn't have the guts to do it. Moin even expressed that the confidence of a young player was hurt. He added, "In the 2022 World Cup, Azam was also selected for the team, but Ramiz Raja dropped him. At that time, if the chief selector had made a wrong selection, he should have been removed, but they didn't have the courage, and as a result, they demoralized a young player'', He also mentioned that in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Azam himself needed to put in a good performance. Khan emphasized that while the team and captain were not all to blame for whatever happened to Azam, Azam too needed to work on himself. According to Moin, Azam should get stronger both physically and mentally. He should follow the same workout routines as the other athletes. He revealed that Azam in recent times had been putting hard work into his fitness. "In this World Cup as well, you can see how he was played. I'm not saying that all the blame lies with the team management and the captain; Azam has his own shortcomings too. He needs to make himself physically and mentally stronger, follow the fitness routines of other sportsmen. For the past month or so, I've noticed he's been working hard to improve his fitness," Also Read | Watch: Basit Ali Accuses Pakistan Player of Match-Fixing in Shocking Allegation
