India beat Pakistan in the final of the Asia Cup 2025 on Sunday, September 28. But there was controversy in the celebrations as the team did not hold the trophy at the prize presentation. The Indian team declined to receive the trophy from Asian Cricket Council (ACC) and Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, who is also an interior minister of Pakistan. Naqvi persisted in handing over the trophy despite opposition from the organisers and the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) authorities. India thus celebrated their title victory without trophies and have since gone back home. According to Cricbuzz, Naqvi has now agreed to relinquish the trophy but only if a formal function is organized. He has also insisted that he himself will hand over the trophy and the medals to the Indian team, extending the standoff. With political tensions between India and Pakistan at their peak, and what has happened during the final, there is little chance that such a ceremony will be planned. Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma have been included in the teams for the second and third unofficial ODIs against Australia A, while Shubman Gill and Jasprit Bumrah are among others gearing up for the Test series against the West Indies, starting October 2 in Ahmedabad. An ACC meeting has been organised on September 30 at 4:00 PM IST, where the trophy row is likely to be the centre of discussion. The BCCI is also set to file a protest with the ICC at its Annual General Meeting on November 24. For now, the Asia Cup trophy is still at the same Dubai hotel that Naqvi is residing in. He has been instructed to hand it over to the ACC office at Dubai Sports City, from where it will be dispatched to India. But it is still uncertain if the PCB Chairman will obey or even come to the meeting.
