Indian right arm pace bowler Mohammed Siraj attained a special landmark in the fourth Test match against England at Old Trafford, Manchester. By playing his 40th Test, Siraj became India's most capped Test cricket player in the current 2020s decade, surpassing legendary batter Virat Kohli. Siraj accomplished the feat at a time when India's pace battery is usually rotated to balance workloads. India's star fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah is regularly rested because of his congested schedule across all formats. But Siraj has been a regular feature, turning up week in and week out for India in Test cricket without demanding breaks. Although he missed nearly all of 2020, the Hyderabad pacer has appeared in more Tests than any Indian player since then. His fitness to play consistently has turned him into an integral part of the team's bowling lineup. In the Old Trafford Test, during which he achieved the milestone of 40 Tests, Siraj bowled 30 overs and brought his total to 139 overs in the first four Tests of the series. This is a load that indicates his status as the team's workhorse, tending to carry the lion's share of the bowling. Virat Kohli, who recently hung up his boots in Tests, also played 39 during the period. Siraj has now surpassed him even though he too is India's all-format bowler, regularly playing ODIs and T20Is as well.
