Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action for more than a year, is now gearing up for his return in India's upcoming Test series against Australia. His long absence was mainly the result of several injuries, with the most notable being surgery on his Achilles tendon. Earlier this year, Mohammed Shami successfully underwent surgery and continued his rehabilitation under the close supervision of doctors at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). While the star bowler was expected to make his return to the field, a knee swelling delayed his comeback, affecting his participation in the New Zealand Test series. During an event in Gurgaon on Monday, Shami acknowledged the star Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant for his resilience and determination to return to the game after surviving a life-threatening accident. Shami said Pant’s unyielding spirit had become a source of personal inspiration for him. I have seen the images, which were so scary. What inspired me the most is that I never saw him sad. All his ligaments were broken but he continued his rehab with a laugh on his face. It was a massive learning for me as well. His positive attitude taught me the importance of patience.” After missing all of 2024, Mohammed Shami is keen to make a Test comeback against Australia and has set his sights on the Border-Gavaskar series. He also shared a crucial update on his fitness status. Shami said: "I am hundred percent pain-free. Everyone has been wondering about if I will play the Australia Tests, but there's a lot of time left for it. I only want to ensure that I am fit and strong before the Australia series."
