A BCCI source says that Mohammed Shami is more likely to play in the Champions Trophy 2025 and IPL 2025 rather than the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for a comeback. The fast bowling sensation has just come back to competitive cricket after suffering a ankle injury. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy continues with the third Test to start at the Gabba in Brisbane on Saturday, December 14. There were earlier signs that Shami might be back into international cricket from the fourth Test of the series. But it seems very difficult for the pacer to get into the squad for the BGT. Here is what the source said as quoted by NDTV Sports "The swelling seems to come and go. He himself is keen on playing more and more domestic cricket and hence the possibility of him once again playing Vijay Hazare Trophy for Bengal (starting December 21) looks imminent at the moment. He can then bowl at least three spells and 10 overs per game," “Shami is at the business end of his career. What if his knee acts up badly in Australia after a long spell? He will have to field on hard grounds. He missed the last IPL due to ankle surgery. This time, he has a hefty Rs 10 crore deal with SRH. You can't blame him if he wants to preserve himself for white ball format for now," the source added. Although the team might require Shami to come back into red-ball cricket, he is probably the best judge of himself and therefore might be able to decide if he can make a comeback in Australia. Shami's last international cricket match was the final of the 2023 World Cup against Australia in Ahmedabad. In the World Cup he played an important role for the Indian team; he helped the team to win matches and to reach the final of the grand tournament. He emerged as the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 27 wickets in just seven matches. The lastest action of the 34-year-old was seen in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, where he had some decent performances. Shami took 11 wickets in nine matches at an average of 25.36 and an economy rate of 7.85 If he misses the remaining Test matches in Australia, then we are more likely to see the veteran fast bowler in the IPL 2025; he will be part of Sunrisers Hyderabad. In the mega auction, 2025 SRH added Shamin to the squad at a whopping price of 10cr.
