He opened the bowling for Bengal on the first day of play, stepping in right after Bengal was bowled out for 228 in 51.2 overs. Though Shami hasn't been named in the 18-member squad for the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy as a precautionary step, multiple reports suggest he could join the team later in the series.
