The veteran pacer Mohammed Shami, who has not featured in any international game since the 2023 ODI World Cup, is likely to make a comeback in the home series against England starting this January. As per reports, the National Cricket Academy (NCA) is closely monitoring Shami and is expected to recover fully for the series. Shami had an ankle injury during the World Cup. After undergoing surgery, he had played the domestics for Bengal but suffered a minor swelling in the knee. Shami was not included in the Border Gavaskar Trophy despite hoping for a late inclusion in the tour. Bumrah was left barren against Australia, having none to support from the other side. Ravi Shastri even slammed NCA for Shami's unavailability. Presently, Shami is playing for Bengal in the Vijay Hazare Trophy and will play against Haryana in the coming match. The T20Is are scheduled for January 22, 25, 28, 31, and February 2, with matches to be played in Kolkata, Chennai, Rajkot, Pune, and Mumbai. The three ODIs will take place on February 6, 9, and 12 in Nagpur, Cuttack, and Ahmedabad. There are speculations about Shami's return, and discussions are also underway regarding the inclusion of Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah, who is recovering from a back injury sustained during the final Test of the recently concluded BGT 2024-25, is awaiting his fitness reports from the NCA. Additionally, Akash Deep has been ruled out for a month, prompting Team India to adopt a cautious approach with their fast bowling unit. Also, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, and Mohammad Siraj are likely to get rest in the series.
